Filosofía y vocación

En su artículo de hoy, Fernando Savater comenta la publicación del libro Filosofía y vocación (FCE, 2012) que recoge textos de José Gaos y sus alumnos Ricardo Guerra, Alejandro Rossi, Emilio Uranga y Luis Villoro.

El asturiano José Gaos fue catedrático de Filosofía y socialista. Ocupaba el rectorado de la Universidad de Madrid (el más joven en el puesto, 36 años) cuando tuvo que exilarse a México a causa de la Guerra Civil. En la UNAM ejerció un largo y hondo magisterio, de cuya fecundidad son prueba tantos discípulos ilustres. Murió de un ataque al corazón mientras presidía un tribunal de doctorado, un destino lleno de dignidad académica, pero cuya perspectiva tratamos de evitar quienes nos jubilamos anticipadamente… A mediados del pasado siglo mantuvo un seminario con varios de sus mejores alumnos, ya emancipados en gran parte de su tutela (Ricardo Guerra, Emilio Uranga, Luis Villoro y mi añorado Alejandro Rossi), sobre una cuestión muy orteguiana: la vocación filosófica. ¿Qué es lo que lleva a alguien a dedicarse profesionalmente a la investigación y la docencia de la filosofía?

Los planteamientos iniciales del seminario (Gaos ligaba esa vocación a tendencias individuales como el afán de goce sensual o estético, la soberbia pasión intelectual de dominar, el erotismo del saber), las rebeldes e irónicas respuestas de los discípulos que se atrevían a dejar de serlo, las contrarréplicas cruzadas entre estos y las admoniciones defensivas del contestado maestro a todos ellos constituyen una suerte de psicodrama de alto nivel ahora al alcance de los lectores, ya que Fondo de Cultura Económica acaba de publicar las actas del seminario(Filosofía y vocación). En esas pocas páginas se encierra, para quienes saben leerlas o comparten su inquietud inicial, el insoluble desafío de pensar más allá de lo que conocemos y de tratar de enseñar lo inenseñable. La aventura que nos hace humanos para unos, o simple pérdida de tiempo para los que reclaman que todo sea manejable y brinde netos beneficios.
